Retraction, Withdrawal, & Correction (R-W-C) Policy

Policy Statement

We are committed to maintaining the integrity of scientific literature. While all papers undergo thorough peer review, published articles may occasionally be corrected, retracted, or removed in rare and exceptional cases. We follow strict editorial standards for any modifications to ensure our electronic archives remain accurate and trustworthy.

Article Retraction

Journal of Aceh Studies is committed to maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the scholarly record. On rare occasions, it may be necessary to retract a published article.

Reasons for Retraction An article may be retracted in cases of:

  • Major scientific errors: Unreliable findings caused by either scientific misconduct (such as data fabrication) or honest mistakes (such as miscalculations).

  • Redundant publication: Findings previously published elsewhere without proper citation, permission, or justification.

  • Ethical violations: Plagiarism or improper authorship attribution.

Retraction Process We follow standard COPE guidelines to process all retractions:

  1. Initial Report: A potential issue is brought to the attention of the Managing Editor.

  2. Investigation: The editor investigates the concern using COPE flowcharts and reviews the author's response.

  3. Board Review: Findings are submitted to the Ethics Advisory Board to ensure a consistent and impartial decision.

  4. Decision & Notification: The final decision is communicated to the author and, if necessary, their institution.

  5. Publication: A formal retraction notice is published online and included in the next available issue.

Note: Retaining copyright does not automatically give authors the right to retract an article after publication. Retractions are strictly governed by COPE guidelines to protect the scientific record.

Article Withdrawal

Authors are expected to carefully consider their submission before submitting to the Journal of Aceh Studies. Unjustified withdrawals waste valuable editorial resources, reviewer time, and publishing efforts. By submitting a manuscript through our OJS system, authors explicitly agree to our withdrawal terms during the submission checklist.

Withdrawal Fees If an author requests a manuscript withdrawal, the following administrative processing fees apply:

  • During Peer Review: $000 USD per manuscript.

  • After Acceptance: $000 USD per manuscript.

  • Articles in Press: $000 USD per manuscript (applicable if a accepted paper is removed due to severe ethical breaches, plagiarism, duplicate submission, or fraudulent data prior to formal volume/issue assignment).

Withdrawal Request Procedure To formally request a withdrawal, the corresponding author must submit an official letter signed by both the corresponding author and the head of their institution/department to the Editor-in-Chief.

Non-Compliance & Sanctions If an author refuses to pay the applicable withdrawal fee, the author and their affiliated institution will be blacklisted from publishing in the Journal of Aceh Studies for three (3) years.

Article Correction

The Journal of Aceh Studies may issue a correction if:

  • A small portion of an otherwise reliable article contains flawed or misleading data due to an honest error.

  • The author or contributor list is incorrect (e.g., a qualifying author was omitted, or an ineligible author was included).

Categories of Correction Corrections to peer-reviewed content are published under one of three categories:

  • Publisher Correction (Erratum): Issued to correct significant errors made by the journal or production staff that affect the scientific record, accuracy, or reputation of the authors/journal.

  • Author Correction (Corrigendum): Issued to correct significant errors made by the authors that impact the accuracy or integrity of the article.

Decision Process The decision to issue a correction rests solely with the Journal Editors, who may consult Reviewers or Editorial Board members when necessary. Editors will contact the corresponding author for clarification; however, the final decision regarding the correction and its category remains with the Editors.

Article Removal

In rare and exceptional cases, the Journal of Aceh Studies may remove a published article from its online platform. Article removal will occur only if the publication:

  • Contains clearly defamatory content.

  • Infringes upon the legal rights of others.

  • Is (or is expected to be) subject to a court order.

  • Poses a serious health or safety risk if its findings are acted upon.

Removal Procedure When an article is removed:

  • The metadata (title, author names, and citation details) will remain accessible in the archive.

  • The full text (HTML and PDF) will be replaced with a statement indicating that the article was removed for legal or safety reasons.

Article Replacement

If an article contains errors that pose serious health or safety risks, authors may retract and replace the paper with a corrected version. In such cases, standard retraction procedures apply, but the retraction notice will include a link to the republished article along with a transparent document history.
