Generative AI Policy
The Journal of Aceh Studies recognizes the increasing use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in scholarly research and writing. Adapted from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines, this policy promotes transparency, research integrity, accountability, and the responsible use of AI throughout the publication process.
The Editorial Board will periodically review and update this policy to adapt to technological advancements and evolving international publishing standards.
General Principles
The following principles apply to all participants in the publication process (authors, reviewers, and editors):

Human Accountability: Authors, reviewers, and editors remain fully accountable for all content and editorial decisions.

Authorship Eligibility: AI tools cannot be credited as an author or co-author.

Quality & Integrity: All AI-generated content must be rigorously checked for accuracy, completeness, bias, and originality.

Confidentiality & Privacy: AI usage must never compromise manuscript confidentiality, intellectual property, or data privacy.

Transparency: Any use of AI tools in manuscript preparation must be clearly disclosed.
For Author
Permitted Uses Authors may use AI-assisted tools for:
Improving language quality, grammar, spelling, and readability.
Assisting with manuscript editing prior to submission.
Image analysis or data interpretation when AI forms a explicit part of the research methodology.
Required Actions
Verification: Review and verify all AI-generated outputs for accuracy and completeness.
Accountability: Take full responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the entire manuscript.
Disclosure: Explicitly disclose the use of AI in a dedicated statement within the manuscript.
Methodological Transparency: Detail any AI methods or tools used as part of the research design in the Methodology section.
Prohibited Uses
Authorship & Citation: Listing or citing AI tools as authors or co-authors.
Image Manipulation: Using generative AI to create, alter, or manipulate figures, images, graphical abstracts, or visual artwork.
Unverified Content: Incorporating AI-generated content without human oversight and verification.
AI Disclosure Statement Template Authors utilizing AI-assisted technologies during manuscript preparation must include a statement in the main text (e.g., in the Acknowledgments or a dedicated section) using the following format:
"The authors used AI to improve language and readability during manuscript preparation. All outputs were thoroughly reviewed and edited by the authors, who take full responsibility for the final content of this manuscript."
For Reviewers
Reviewer Responsibilities Reviewers evaluating manuscripts for the Journal of Aceh Studies must:

Maintain Confidentiality: Keep all manuscripts, supplementary data, and review materials strictly confidential.

Provide Independent Judgment: Offer unbiased, critical, and independent scientific evaluation.

Take Accountability: Remain fully responsible for the content and integrity of their review reports.
Prohibited Uses of AI To safeguard intellectual property and preserve peer-review integrity, reviewers are strictly prohibited from:

Uploading Manuscripts: Uploading full manuscripts, excerpts, graphics, or review reports into generative AI tools or platforms.

AI-Generated Evaluation: Relying on AI tools to assess scientific quality, evaluate methodology, or generate review recommendations.

Data Sharing: Disclosing any confidential manuscript information to external AI systems.
For Editor
Editorial Responsibilities Editors of the Journal of Aceh Studies must:

Protect Confidentiality: Preserve the strict confidentiality of all manuscripts, reviewer reports, and editorial communications.

Exercise Human Judgment: Ensure all editorial evaluation, feedback, and publication decisions are guided entirely by independent human judgment.

Prohibited Uses of AI To uphold editorial integrity and protect author confidentiality, editors are strictly prohibited from:

Automating Decisions: Using AI tools to perform scholarly evaluations or determine publication decisions (accept, revise, or reject).
